Donald Allen, 89 of Paden City, died December
17, 2008 in
Wetzel County Hospital. Donald was born April
17, 1919,
in Paden City, the son of the late James J. and
Daisy McQuay Schmidt. He was a retired employee
of PPG Industries; a proud member of "The Greatest Generation"
serving in the US Army in World War II, which included serving in Africa, the
Invasion of Southern France, Germany, the Invasion of Italy, and Austria; a
member for 65 years of the American Legion Post 86 of Paden City and VFW Post
6327 of Sistersville; and a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church of
Paden City. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three
brothers, James Kenny, and Harold: and two sisters, Virginia Lindsay and Nell DiMuzio. Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Florence
Thomas Schmidt; a son, Donald E. and his wife Carol of Paden City;
step-grandson, Kurt Jones, serving with the US Army stationed in Germany; twin sister,
Dorothy Casto of Lacy, Washington; brother, Robert
Schmidt and his wife Gussie of New Martinsville; two nieces; and three
nephews. Friends were received from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. Dec. 20 at the Jarvis Funeral Home.
Paden City, where funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 21 with Rev.
Paula Keplinger (Mrs. Schmidt's niece) and Evangelist
Jerry Toothman officiating. Interment in Beechwood
Cemetery, Alma, with full military graveside services conducted by Paden City
American Legion Post 86, New Martinsville American Legion Post 28, Sistersville
American Legion Post 67 and Sistersville VFW Post 6327, with post members
serving as pallbearers. Memorial contributions may be made in Donald's

Mary Sue Schulberg 49 of Teays Valley,
formerly of Bridgeport W.Va. and Pittsburg Pa. died Thursday. Dec.25, 2008 . at Hubbard Hospice House
following a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born Oct.
20, 1959 in
Clarksburg to Lloyd and Sara Weekly of Bridgeport. She was the sister of David and
Linda Weekly of South Charleston. Dan and Lessile Weekly of South
Glastonbury, Connecticut. And Martha Weekly
of Winfield. Her Grandparents were Mabel and Ben Hardman and Edna and
Arnold Weekly all of Middlebourne. Mary Sue was a 1980 graduate of West Virginia University and received her Juris Doctor degree from WVU School of Law in 1983. She was
admitted to the practice of law in West Virgina and Pennsylvania. She was a well respected oil and
gas lawyer. Most recently she was a Senior Attorney in the Legal Department for
NiSource Corporate Services Company. Mary Sue was
actively involved in the Enegry &Mineral Law
Foundation as a trustee and was a past president of that organization. She
loved to travel particularly to the island of St. Maarten to scuba dive and she
was a avid reader. In recent years she had become a fan of the Pittsburg
Steelers. Mary Sue is survived by her devoted husband Arnold Schulberg, and her two beautiful children, Alec 18 and
Dinah 15; her loving parents, siblings, nephews and extended family, an by her
in laws who adored her.The family would like to Thank

Alice E. Shepherd, 66, of Lima, WV departed this life Monday
December 1, 2008 in Camden Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg. She was born November
17, 1942 in
Tyler County a daughter of the late Encil and Hattie Kester Headley. Alice was a homemaker and a member of
Dale Church of Christ, Dale, WV Alice is survived by her husband Curtis Shepherd. Two sons; Greg Shepherd and his wife Paula of Paden City and Pat
Shepherd and his wife Julie of Middlebourne. A
daughter Katrina Stevens and her husband Ronnie of Waynesburg, PA. Four brothers; Encil

Mae E.
Shepherd, 87, of Middlebourne, departed this life Monday
January 28, 2008 in Wetzel County Hospital, New Martinsville. She was born in Ritchie County, May 1, 1920 a daughter of the late Amos
Marshall, Sr. and Rosa Irene Grimm Dawson. Mae was a homemaker, protestant by
faith, Loving Mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. She was like a mother to her grandaughter Mindy Elaine Shepherd who she had raised since
the age of fifteen months. Mindy was her grandmother's caregiver since 2000. In
addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband John Sanford
Shepherd, Sr. in 1970. A daughter Bernice Ann Shepherd.
Five brothers; Amos Marshall Dawson, Jr., Clifford Dawson,
Edward Dawson, Kenneth Dawson and Billy Dawson. Two
sisters; Orpha Ridgley and Zelda Dawson. Six grandchildren. She is survived by five sons; Aaron
Shepherd, Robert Lee Sepherd, John Sanfrod Shepherd, Jr. and wife Betty, James Shepherd and
Gene Melford Shepherd and wife Tammy all of
Middlebourne. Four daughters; Norma Jane Lemasters
and husband Jerry, Opal Mae Billiter and Susanna
Owens all of Paden City. Doris Marlene Wright and husband
Bill of Alma. A sister Lucie Ridgley, Lisbon, OH. Thirty one

James B. Shinn 69 of Paden City departed this life Sunday Jan.
25, 2009 at
his home. He was born in Tyler County June 27 1939. a son of
the late E.A. and Lola Kinney Shinn. Jim was a carpenter and a plumber. He was
a protestant. Jim is survived by his wife of 31 years, Carolyn Smith Shinn. A son; James B. Shinn and his wife Jennifer, of Sistersville.
Three daughters; Sherry Henry and her husband Keith, Sheila Irvin and her
husband Rex, all of Paden City, and Cheryl McFadden and her
husband Steve of N.C. A brother; Patrick Shinn of New
Martinsville A sister; Betty Haught of Middlebourne.
Seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Friends
will be received at the Furbee Funeral Home
Middlebourne, Tuesday 6-9pm. There will be no funeral service.
Patricia Ann (Patty) Springer Silk
Patricia Ann (Patty) Springer Silk, 86, of Gallipolis, Ohio, formerly of
Sistersville, W.Va., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009, at the Arbors in
Gallipolis. She was born in Sistersville on May 18, 1922, the youngest child of Alonzo
George (AG) and Joberta Henderson Springer. Patty was
a graduate of Sistersville High School class of 1940. She was retired from
Gallia County Community Action. She was a member of the Gallia County Senior
Citizens, Moose Lodge of Point Pleasant, W.Va., and the Sistersville Elks Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Silk,
on Feb. 2, 1990; four brothers, George, Bill and Jack Springer and an
infant brother, Bruce; four sisters, Virginia Herwig,
Mary Springer, Betty Richards and Margaret Bradfield; and one nephew, Walter
"Skip" Bradfield. Patty is survived by one sister, Helen Haught of Sistersville, W.Va.; sister-in-law, Wanda
Springer of Statesville, N.C.; three nieces, Joan Hadley and Joberta White, both of Sistersville, W.Va. and Margie Jo
Poole of Statesville, N.C.; four nephews, Larry Bradfield of Marietta, Ohio,
Jack Haught of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., Jack
Springer Jr. of Fairfax, Va., and Bill Springer of Newell, W.Va.; her good
friend of 52 years, Mildred (Mick) Jacobs, of Gallipolis, Ohio; and her friend
and caregiver, Pauline Newell, of Gallipolis, Ohio. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February
28, 2009 at
the Myers Funeral Home, Sistersville, W.Va. with the Reverend Jef Stemple officiating. Burial
will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery, Sistersville. Friends may call
from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Louise Sinclair
Louise Sinclair, 87, of New Martinsville, formerly of Middlebourne, departed
this life Sunday March 23, 2008 in Wetzel County Hospital, New Martinsville. She was born April
10, 1920 in
Luray, KS a daughter of the late Mortimer and
Angella Rose Dragoo. Louise was a graduate of Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS. She received her Masters Degree
from Adams State College, Alamosa, CO in 1972.She taught history and
specialized in teaching remedial reading. She was editor of Dragoo
Family Newsletter which has members throughout the United States. She was a member of Mensa International where she edited the newsletter in
1980. She was active in the Tyler County Museum. In 2003 she received the History
Hero Award from the WV Legislature. In 2003 she also was chosen as Middlebourne
Citizen of the year. She was a member of the Middlebourne Methodist Church, Middlebourne. In addition to her parents she was preceded
in death by a brother Edgar Dragoo. Three sisters; Catherine Billings, Elizabeth Krueger and Margaret Smedley. She
is survived by her husband Kenneth Sinclair. Two sons; Robert
Sinclair and his wife Frances of Lafayette, CO and James Sinclair and his wife
Martha of Cincinatti, OH. A sister Ruth
Cloud of Lawrence, KS. There are four grandchildren. There
will be a graveside service Wednesday 3:00 pm at Spring Hill Cemetery, Joseph's Mills with Reverend
Donald Thomas officiating. Interment in the cemetery to
follow.

Juanita V.
Slack, 87, of Sistersville, W.Va., died Oct. 3,
2007, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg. She was born July
7, 1920, in
Wick, W.Va., a daughter of the late Oral Raymond and Pearl Inez Long
Slack. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Sistersville. She is survived by a sister, Shirley Lohr of New Martinsville, W.Va.; niece, Melissa Ann (Brian)
Lockhart of New Martinsville; great-niece, Andrea Lockhart; great-nephew,
Zachary Lockhart; and many special friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma
June Slack. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Myers Funeral Home,
Sistersville, with James Willison officiating. Burial
will be in Long Cemetery, Wick. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Berkley J. Smith, age 82, a native of Wilbur, died Tuesday May 1 at
Middlebourne. He was born at Wilbur on April 6, 1880, a son of Marshall and Cordelia Undrwood Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie Jones Smith, five daughters and three sons,
Mrs. Virginia Alleman of Parkersburg, Mrs Eloise Keller and Mrs. Hilda Cunningham of
Middlebourne, Mrs. Norma Pierpoint of Charlotte,
Mich., Mrs. Cordelia McCollough
of Dunde, Walton of Wilbur, Allan of Parkersburg and
Berkley Jr., at home; three brothers J.M.L. of West Union, Wilbur Smith of
Wilbur, Philip of Alma and four sisters, Mrs. Anna Pratt of Akron, O., Mrs Kersey Doak, and Miss Icie Smith of Wilbur and Mrs. Estella Williamson of
Friendly. There are nineteen grandchildren. Mr. Smith was a well-known stockman
and farmer. Funeral services were held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church and Rev. Russell Crawford
officiating. Burial was in the cemetery at Beechwood.

Smith, Claude Eston, 50, of Star Rt., Middlebourne,
died Wednesday at Wetzel County Hospital. He was a member of the
Middlebourne Church of Christ and a veteran of World War II. Surviving are two
brothers, Ralph Smith of Sistersville and William Smith of Middlebourne; two
sisters, Mrs. Open Ferrell of Newell and Miss Pearl Smith of Columbus, Ohio.

23, 1963 in
Tyler County the son of Faye Smith Davis. David was a truck driver for Yourga, in Wheatland, P.A. and a member of the Teamsters.
David was a Protestant. In addition to his mother David is survived by his two
sons; Brian Smith and his wife Kara of New Martinsville, W.V. and Victor Smith
of Pensacola, Florida. One daughter;

illness Sunday, November 25. Born at Frew,

son of Bose and Maggie Robinson Smith. He had lived all his life in Tyler County and was a retired merchant from the
Smith Cut-Rate and Confectionary Store in Middlebourne. Was a member of the A.F.& A.M. No. 34 of Middlebourne and the Methodist Church. Funeral services

Mrs. Ida Jemison Smith
Mrs. Ida Jemison Smith, 81, of Middlebourne, died Friday at the Sistersville General Hospital, following an extended illness. She
was born Oct. 8, 1876 at Gorrell's
Run, Tyler County, a daughter of Francis and Margaret
Swann Jemison. She was a member of the Middlebourne Baptist Church and of the Baptist Missionary
Society. She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin A. Smith who died in
1929, and also by six brothers and one sister. Survivors include two sons,
Clarence F. Smith of Follansbee, and Armstrong Smith of Canton, Ohio; two daughters, Mrs. Bessie S.
Brennan of Sistersville, and Mrs. Ruth Smith of Middlebourne; five
grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; two
sisters, Mrs. T.E. Watson of Middlebourne and Mrs. Charles R. Smith of Akron, Ohio. Funeral services will be conducted
at 2 p.m. Sunday from the Sawyer Funeral Home in Middlebourne by the
Rev. Ray Bartlett, assisted by the Rev. W.E. Davies of Sistersville. Burial
will be in the Beechwood cemetery at Alma. The body will remain at the
funeral home, where friends may call until time for the services.
Smith, John E.
John E. Smith, 53, of Chelyan went home to be with
the Lord July 6, 2008, as a result of complications from
a heart attack.
John was a member of the Chelyan First Baptist Church and a former coalminer. He was
preceded in death by his parents, David and Ethel Mae Smith. Surviving
are his wife, Kathryn Henderson Smith; son, David A. Smith of Columbus, Ohio;
daughter, Krystle A. Smith of Kanawha City;
father-in-law, Charles W. Henderson of Middlebourne; brothers-in-law, C.
William Henderson and his wife, Sandra of Middlebourne and Steve Henderson and
his wife, Sue, of Wick; sisters-in-law, Nancy Miller of Sistersville and Sueann Barney of Westerly, R.I.; and special friends, Steve
Gancs, Frank Morrison and Chandra Duke.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, at Chelyan First Baptist Church with Pastor Thomas Holstein
officiating. Burial will be noon Thursday in Beechwood Cemetery, Alma, located in Tyler County. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Chelyan First Baptist Church. Fidler

"Jake" Smith, 81, of Weirton departed this life Wednesday
July 16, 2008
at his home. He was born March 18, 1927 in Shirley a son of the late Lee A.
And Clara George Smith. Jake was a retired employee of
National Steel Corporation with 31 years of service. He was a member of the 25
Year Club; Weirton Steel Company. He was a Veteran of U. S. Army having served
in WW II. Jake enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap shooting, and coon hunting and
was a lifetime member of the Colliers Sportsman Club. He also enjoyed spending
time with family and friends where he entertained many with his jokes and
stories. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers
and four sisters. Jake is survived by his wife of 57 years Janice Rollins
Smith. A son Keith Smith, Sr. (Terry). Three
daughters; Sandra Weekley (Butch), Pamela Smith and
Linda Smith Brown all of Weirton. A brother

Jerle Margaret Sole, 90, of Middlebourne, Lone Tree
Community, depated this life Friday June 6, 2008 at her home due
to complications from heart failure. She was born May 23, 1918 a daughter of the late Etta Stewart
Lemasters and Frederick Charles Fiber. Jerle was a home maker and a member of the Elk Fork Church
of Christ. She served as secretary / treaurer of Simpson Chapel Cemetery for over 20 years. She was an avid
quilter, a wonderful cook, a great mother and grandmother. In addition to her
parents she was preceded in death by her Husband Arthur C. Sole and a son,
Gregg Sole. Two sisters; Zella (
Mike ) Crawford and Doris Mae Lemasters. A brother Gail.
She is survived by two sons; Darrell and Gary Sole both of Middlebourne. A daughter Karen Sole Wolf, Plano TX. Four
grandchildren; James, Lisa, Jenna and Daniel. Six

Mary L. (King Spiker) Sprague of Vienna, Wva. Went home to her Heavenly Father surrounded by her family on Jan
15, 2009 at
Cademn Clark Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church and a Home maker. She was born June
26, 1935. the daughter of the late Earl and Carrie Spiker
in Parkersburg. Along with her parents Mrs.
Sprague was preceded in death by her daughter Melody Brookover
and grandson Terry Lynn Goff Jr. She is survived by a loving and faithful
companion and friend Randy T. Sprague and their dog Baby, along with daughter
Debra (Delmas) Wilson sons Robert Parks Jr. Terry (Nancy)
Parks daughter Maylindia (Dale) Kootnzson-in

fishing, and camping. Mrs. Spragues was blessed with

of the late John and Phoebe Hamilton Laugh. A member of
the Fairview Methodist Church she had resided in Tyler County all her life. Surviors include
two sons Charles C. Stevens at home, and John Stevens of Wick. seven
daughters Miss Mary Stevens at home, Mrs. Hattie Frampton of Newell, Mrs Mollie E. Riggs of Bearsville,
Mrs. Nellei Spencer of Wick, Mrs. Clara McCracken of
Weirton, Mrs Elma Seders of Pico Cal., and Mrs.Velma Maupin of Stubenville,
O, One brother John Laugh of Bearsville. One sister Mrs. Olive Weaver of Ellenboro; nine grandchildern
and four great grandchildern. She was preceded
in death by her husband Elijah Stevens and by one brother and one sister
Patricia A. Stevens
Patricia A. Stevens, 74, of Alvy, WV, former resident of Weirton, WV, loving wife and mother was called
home by her Heavenly Father on Thursday, August 07, 2008. She dedicated her life as a wife
to Virgil for 60 years. She was a wonderful mother of 9 children, 16
grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and 7 step
great-grandchildren. Upon her passing, she was surrounded by her nine children
who blessed her soul immensely. She was ready to meet her Dad and Mom. Her time
was now complete. It was "A Job Well Done". Born August
13, 1933 in
Alvy, she was the daughter of the late Ira and
Harriett Waters Talkington LeMasters.
Patricia was also preceded in death by her brothers Lewis and Ira Talkington, Jr. and sisters
Garnett Bedway, Juanita Delaney and Irene Longstreth. She was a member of the Kings Creek Union
Chapel and the Indian Creek Homemakers Association. Patricia is survived by her
husband Virgil D. Stevens of Alvy; sons Zane of
Weirton, Dallas (Carol) of New Cumberland, Steve and Rodney Weirton and Vernon
of Alvy, WV; daughters Bonita Griffith (James) of
Toronto, OH, Elizabeth "Libby" Stevens of Weirton, Monnetta Williams of Cartersville, GA and Renee Pennell (Adam) of New Martinsville, WV; a brother Robert Talkington of Moundsville, WV and several nieces and
nephews.
Friends will be received Friday 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Greco-Hertnick
Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Additional visitation will be held
Saturday at the Furbee Funeral Home, 217 Main Street, Middlebourne, WV from 11AM - 2PM with funeral services immediately
following at the Victory Church on Indian Creek Road. Graveside services will be held at
the Talkington Family Cemetery.
Kenneth E. Stoneking
Kenneth E. Stoneking, 87, of Middlebourne departed
this life Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at the Heartland of Marietta, Marietta, OH. He was born in Tyler County March
13, 1920 a son of the late Otto and Melissa Jones Stoneking.
Kenneth was a United States Army Veteran. He was permanently disabled from a
battle wound he suffered during WWll at the Battle of the Bulge. He received a Purple
Heart. He was a life member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 4, New
Martinsville. He attended the Tyler City Pentecostal Church of God. In addition
to his parents he was preceded in death by a son Larry K. Stoneking.
A brother Winfred Stoneking and a
sister Ruby Whaley Weekley. He is survived by
his wife Arah Spencer Stoneking.
A son Jerry E. Stoneking and his
wife Bonnie of Sistersville. A daughter Donna Scott and her husband Roger of Pennsboro. Eight
grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. A
daughter in law Susan Stoneking Webb of Friendly.
Friends will be received at the Furbee Funeral Home,
Middlebourne 4 - 8 pm Friday where services will be held Saturday 1:00 pm with Pastor Michael Vannatter officiating. Interment in Beechwood Cemetery Alma. Military rites will be provided by
VFW Post 6327, Sistersville, VFW Post 4634, New Martinsville, American Legion
Post 67, Sistersville, American Legion Post 86, Paden City and American Legion Post 28, New
Martinsville.
Samuel Stoneking
March 7, 1919- Jan. 19, 2009
Samuel K. Stoneking .Sr. 89 , of Weirton passed away Jan.19, 2009. at home. He was born March 7,1919. in Middlebourne a son of Herman
and Lula Thompson Stoneking Baker. Samuel was a
veteran of WWII and a U.S. Army Military Policeman in Iran. He was a member of the VFW Post 2716 Weirton Steels 25 year club and Kings Creek
Union Chapel. He retried with 40 years of services as a Class18 General
Mechanics from the Steubenville Plant of National Steel. In addition to his
parents Samuel was predeceased by his wife Geraldine "Jerry" Fiber Stoneking in 2002: brothers James
"Bill" Stoneking and Billy Gene Stoneking; and sister Deloris Bramhall
and Freda Riggs. He is survived by one daughter, Goldie (Jay) Israel of
Prescott Ariz.; one son Sam K. (Tina) Stoneking Jr.
of Weirton. And three
grandsons, Jeff Israel of Boulder Colo., Ritchie Israel of Manhattan N.Y. and Josh Stoneking of Morgantown. Friends were received by the family
at Steel& Wolfe Funeral Home in Weirton on Jan.22 from 2-4 pm. and 6-8pm. Services were held at
the funeral home on Jan23 with Pastor Darrell Maze officiating Burial at Highland Hills Memorial Gardens.
